Social Events

1.-WELCOME RECEPTION (on Sunday evening, September 14th): The Organizing committee of the Symposium is organizing an informal welcome reception at a local restaurant close to the auditorium in Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz island. The Symposium participants are welcome to come and share a good time making friends and meeting old ones. This event is free of charge (included in the registration fee), but you must to reserve your participation and your companions if applicable. ("Light food will be provided.")

2.- SOCIAL DINNER (on Thursday, September 18th): Social event of the Symposium to be held at the elegant Royal Palm Hotel restaurant. The price is 45 USD per person. If you are interest in taking part of this event, please make your reservation below. Dinner tickets can be purchased during the conference. The conference dinner has a capacity of 150 people. Companions of participants are welcome and will be accommodated in order of the reservation received.

3.- GROUP EXCURSION (on Wednesday, September 17th, 14:00-20:00): This event organized by the LOC in kind contribution to the Symposium participants (companions are welcome), is now provided free of charge.

Participants who decided to take part of this social event can select only one of the three different choices that we offer below, in order to visit the attractions of Santa Cruz islands; its flora and fauna and landscapes.

Guided tours : These are guided tours with availability limited to 45 people each. If the limit for any of the options is reached, those who reserved early will be given preference.

Choice 1: SEATS TOURISTS COMPLETE


Visit National Galapagos Park Station (CHARLES DARWIN), and inland:Cerro Mesa, Primicias Ranch and Lava tunnels. National Galapagos Park:  has 6 species of giant tortoises, land and marine iguanas, seven species of lava lizards, sea lions, 85 different species of birds and lush coral seabed plagued. All of that makes the islands become a memorable destination.
Cerro Mesa: located at 490m above sea level, provides an impressive view of the archipelago. It is an excellent location to observe numerous endemic plants as well as up to 7 subspecies of finch and the vermillion flycatcher. The west side features the largest crater on Santa Cruz.
Primicias Ranch: Private property of more than 150 hectares, at about approximately 30 minutes, which lets you see the huge Galapagos tortoises in their natural state.
Lava tunnels: A partially collapsed tube lava. Lava tubes were forming when the surface layer of lava flow cools on contact with cooler ambient air. It is a good place to observe finches and other land birds. .In the same spot you can see white owl into the lava tube.

 

Choice 2: TORTUGA BAY

 

Visit National Galapagos Park Station (CHARLES DARWIN) and Walk to Tortuga Bay (beaches). National Galapagos Park:  has 6 species of giant tortoises, land and marine iguanas, seven species of lava lizards, sea lions, 85 different species of birds and lush coral seabed plagued. All of that makes the islands become a memorable destination.

Beach is perfectly preserved and there are wild animals such as iguanas, crabs beach. You are only allowed to swim in the swamp that is separated from the beach.

It takes around an hour walk to get to the beach. You'll be able to see beautiful birds including the famous Galapagos finches as well as an impressive forest of giant cactus as you walk. The trail to the beach is paved and marked.

 

Choice 3: GARRAPATERO

 

Visit Lava tunnels in Royal Palm Hotel

and

Walk to Garrapatero Bay (beaches).

Lava tunnels: A partially collapsed tube lava. Lava tubes were forming when the surface layer of lava flow cools on contact with cooler ambient air. It is a good place to observe finches and other land birds. .In the same spot you can see white owl into the lava tube.
Garrapatero: Surrounded by beautiful mangrove trees, the beach is home to an incredible array of birds, most notably, flamingos and mockingbirds. You can also find marine iguanas, shrimp, Galapagos penguins, oystercatchers, and patillos amongst the white sands and clear blue water. There’s also a freshwater lake nearby that is home to even more tropical animals, such as herons, grebes, and many of shore birds. 


4. TRANSPORTATION, TRANSFER IN/OUT: The Organization of the meeting will provide transportation for the participants who require this assistance, helping to reach their hotels, from Baltra airport to Puerto Ayora town (arrival) and from the hotels in Puerto ayora to the airport in Baltra (departure). This service is included in the registration fee. If you require this assistance, please provide below the necessary information.

5. VISA AND INVITATION LETTER: Most of the nationalities do not require a visa to visit Ecuador and the Galapagos islands.

Only Citizens of the People's Republic of China, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan and Somalia require visas, but please verify potential updates to your home country regulations. The LOC will work with such participants to provide a necessary letter of invitation.
